What to wear to your equine photo shoot

As a photographer, the number one thing I get asked by my clients is what to wear to their shoot! I know first hand how overwhelming it can feel to put together outfits for your upcoming shoot, so here are my 3 easy tips to rock your outfits!

Tip #1: Where To Shop

My favorite stores for clients to shop at are:

www.vicicollection.com

www.indiefashionboutique.com

www.lulus.com

www.brokerleather.com

Look for clothing that not only looks cute, but is also comfortable to wear! If you’re uncomfortable in your outfit, it will show on camera. Also be sure your outfit fits properly and looks good from all angles.

Found a cute outfit but you’re on a budget? I absolutely love www.poshmark.com! I personally shop from there a ton and it’s an awesome way to get cute, trendy clothing at great prices. My tip for shopping Poshmark, be very specific when you’re using the search bar, there is a ton of clothing on that site so the more specific you are with it the easier shopping will be!

Tip #2: Building Your Looks

Depending on how long your session is, you should be bringing anywhere from 2-5 outfits to your photo shoot. I like to encourage my clients to pick outfits that differ from each other. A great starting point is to have outfit #1 be jeans + a cute top and outfit #2 be a pretty flowy dress, then build the rest of your looks around that!

Most importantly, pick outfits that are YOU. If you don’t like wearing dresses, no worries, bring a variety of looks with jeans! Not a fan of heels? There are tons of cute boot options out there! Your photo shoot outfits should reflect you & the person you want to be on camera!

Tip #3: Compliment Your Horse

When having a photo shoot with your horse, you’ll want to factor in their coat color! Don’t be afraid to bring potential outfits to the barn and hold them up next to your horse to see how they look. Still not sure if it goes? I always tell clients they can send me photos of potential outfits anytime, I’m always happy to help pick what will look best on camera. Neutrals, soft pink and soft blue tones work with all coat types, while you’ll want to make sure bolder colors compliment your horse well. If you have a black horse, avoid wearing all black. If you have a white horse, avoid wearing all white.
